St Joseph Offerus
Top 6% wine in the world
Blend: 100% Syrah
From: France, Saint-Joseph AOC
By: Jean-Louis & Erin @ JL Chave Selection
This varietal Syrah wine hails from the St Joseph appellation in the upper reaches of the Rhône Valley. It is made in a classic northern Rhône style, showing dense black fruit with overarching characters of smoky leather and olives.
The Chave family have been making wines along the banks of the Rhône for some 500 years, and are most famous for their Hermitage wines. However, this offering from St Joseph has proved very successful for the domaine, receiving 93 points from Wine Spectator and 17/20 from Jancis Robinson for the 2013 vintage.
The St Joseph Offerus is harvested by hand from mostly estate-grown fruit, and is fermented using only wild yeasts. It is aged in old oak demi-muids before bottling.
