St Joseph Circa Blanc
Top 5% wine in the UK
Blend: 100% Roussanne
From: France, Saint-Joseph AOC
By: Jean-Louis & Erin @ JL Chave Selection
One of the most prestigious producers in Hermitage, J.L. Chave also makes a range of more approachable wines from other appellations in the northern Rhône. The Circa Blanc from St Joseph is one of these wines, and is a lush, medium-bodied white wine made from Roussanne showing honeyed characters of orange and fig.
The wine comes from a plot of old vines in a 4-hectare walled vineyard in St Joseph with granite-rich soils. As with most of Chave’s wines, it is harvested by hand and fermented using wild yeasts. Circa is aged in old oak demi-muids to minimise oak influence on the wine.
The first vintage of the Circa Blanc was in 2009, and the wine has been a hit. The 2013 vintage received 92 points from both Wine Spectator and Vinous, and a 17/20 from Jancis Robinson.
Vivino users rate it a top wine with a stunning 3.9!
