Top 5% wine in the UK
Blend: 100% Nebbiolo
From: Italy, Valtellina Superiore Sassella Riserva DOCG
By: Mamete Prevostini
The Mamete Prevostini winery situated perfectly on the northern Italian border in the heart of the Alps: a small valley with one side facing north, one facing south. Nebbiolo is only planted on south or south-west-facing slopes at an altitude somewhere between 250 and 450m.
Sommarovina Sassella, 100% nebbiolo grapes, harvested late in the season, vinificated in wood and refined for 10 months in the bottle before ready for market. Nebbiolo is a beautiful red grape with a brick-orange tint at the stem. An intense bouquet of red berries, hibiscus and roses, with a palate of blackberries, blackcurrant and an intense finish of spices. Awarded from Wine Spectator and Gambero Rosso guide, this wine has the potential to age for a long time.
Taster notes – “Delicious mountain nebbiolo. Fresh, raspberry and bilberry, strawberry, and floral. Smoked and vanilla hint from oak. Well balanced, lower alcohol compared to it’s Piedmont cousins.”
Vivino users rate it a top wine with a stunning 3.9!
