La Rocca Soave Classico
Top 5% wine in the UK
Blend: 100% Garganega
From: Italy, Soave Superiore DOCG
By: Pieropan family
From a family vineyard who have been making Soave – arguably Italy’s most famous white wine, since the early twentieth century. In fact the Pieropans were the first to put ‘Soave’ on the bottle, and therefore on the map. This is a golden coloured, mineral wine made from handpicked Garganela grapes.
The Pieropan’s La Rocca vineyard lies on the hill overlooking the Verona Castle and the medieval village of Soave. The vineyard has been in the family since the 1890s and is now run by its fifth generation. The grapes for La Rocca Soave Classico are grown on traditional terraced slopes, farmed organically. Grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks and oak casks before being aged in oak casks and in the bottle. The 2015 vintage is said to be the best for twenty years.
