Top 5% wine in the UK
Blend: 100% Barbera
From: Italy, Barbera del Monferrato Superiore DOCG
By: Fabrizio Iuli @ Cantina Iuli
The Barbera grapes are grown in the vineyards surrounding Montaldo in the Piedmont region. Ruby red in colour with a great nose, starting with an explosion of blackberries, strawberries and black cherries. Evolving into spices with notes of lavender and incense. The Palate is smooth and elegant with an enjoyable acidity.
Rossore is the Italian word used to refer to the rosy colour of the cheeks after the bottle has been drunk. Barbera is one of the most commonly grown grapes in Piemonte. The aim of Fabrizio Iuli has always been to increase the value of this grape and create a positive opinion of these indigenous grapes (such Barbera). His ambitious project for the future is to buy old vineyards and plant and revive forgotten grapes varieties in danger of extinction.
