Rioja Gran Reserva
Top 5% wine in the UK
Blend: 90% Tempranillo + 10% Carignan
From: Spain, Rioja DOC
By: Bodegas Lan
From vineyards in the heart of the Rioja region this is a full-bodied red created from Tempranillo grapes grown on 30 year-old, low yielding vines, and Mazuelo grapes from a vineyard on the banks of the River Ebra. The 2007 harvest was recorded as being very good, creating an elegant, balanced wine.
Bodegas LAN (named for the three provinces which make up the Rioja region, Logrono, Álava and Navarra) was founded in 1972. The present winemaker, María Barua, a local lady with degrees in both chemistry and oenology is keen to express the ‘virtues of the land’. María and her young team work hard to preserve the vineyards’ features in their wines. The grapes for the Rioja Gran Reserva are manually harvested and aged for 24 months in American and French oak barrels.
