Rioja Blanco El Coto
Blend: 89% Viura + 6% Sauvignon Blanc + 5% Verdejo
From: Spain, Rioja DOC
By: Cesar Fernandez @ El Coto
Rioja is best known for its red wines, but that has never stopped it from pumping out some very top notch white wines, usually at great prices. El Coto’s Rioja Blanco, made from Viura, is a light, fresh wine with flavours of apple and stonefruit and a touch of melon.
Grapes for the wines come from El Coto’s 700 hectares of vineyards, spread across the three Rioja subregions.
Following harvest, the grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and bottled with no oak or malolactic fermentation in order to preserve the fresh, fruity characters.
The El Coto Rioja Blanco is a great alternative to Pinot Grigio or New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and offers great value for money.
