A dry white from Damijan Podversic, an artisanal producer in the steep Gorizia hills of Friuli; hills so steep in fact that the neighbours were rather sceptical of Damijan’s plan of cultivating vines there. Now his precipitous vineyard is the envy of those neighbours, and his skin-contact wines are found in top restaurants across the world.
Damijan is a controversial figure, known for breaking rules and going his own way. A huge fan of natural winemaking, Damijan’s vineyard is certified organic, (but you won’t find that on his bottles, Damijan says that stops people thinking.) Ribolla Gialla is fermented on skins for up to three months in small conical oak barrels, aged for 23 months in barrels and a further six months in the bottle.
