Blend: 100% Refosco
From: Italy, Grave del Friuli DOP
By: Francesco Visentin @ Ponte del Diavolo
Refosco is a red grape variety grown in northeastern Italy, and is becoming quite popular thanks to its robust, flavoursome character and excellent value for money. This example is ripe and juicy, with a spicy, herbaceous nose and lots of blackberry on the palate.
The Grave del Friuli area is just to the northeast of Verona, and the wines made here are quite different to their southern counterparts. The grapes for this wine are grown on well-drained gravel soils, where they can ripen enough to balance out the naturally high acidity.
The Ponte del Diavolo wines are named for a famous local bridge that was said to be gifted to the townspeople by the devil, in exchange for the soul of the first living thing that passed over it.
