Priorat Clos Tafell
Top 5% wine in the UK
Blend: 55% Grenache + 35% Carignan + 10% Cab Sauvignon
From: Spain, Priorat DO
By: Francesc Berenguer @ Clos Berenguer
A medium bodied red from vines which cling to the hillsides in Priorat in the North of Spain. Clos Berenguer is a small, family owned organic vineyard situated above an old manganese mine. Inactive for over a century the family use some of the mine’s tunnels to store barrels and bottles.
Priorat Clos Tafell is a blend of Carignan, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon, some from exceedingly old vines. With the vineyards being at high altitude yields are tiny and the alcohol concentration tends to be on the high side. The grapes for this ‘bold’ red wine are carefully harvested by hand then aged for twelve months in oak casks. This wine is unfiltered, unfined and free from sulphur.
