Pinot Noir Reserve Chamonix
Top 5% wine in the UK
Blend: 100% Pinot Noir
From: South Africa, Franschhoek WO
By: Chris Hellinger @ Chamonix
At Chamonix they believe that nature is the best winemaker, so they follow traditional wine making methods and intervene in the natural winemaking process as little as possible. The 2012 vintage of this light-bodied red picked up a couple of awards, including a double medal at the Six Nations Wine Challenge.
There’s a lot going on at this vineyard, perched on an Eastern slope in the Franschboek mountains, said to be one of the highest vineyards in the country. The scenery here is spectacular, although the team may not have time to enjoy the views, as they also make fancy water and run a game farm. The grapes for the Pinot Noir Reserve are manually harvested and aged for sixteen months in French oak barrels.
