Nebbiolo Colline Novaresi
Top 5% wine in the UK
Blend: 100% Nebbiolo
From: Italy, Colline Novaresi DOC
By: Giancarlo & Chiara Ferrari @ Fontechiara
Nebbiolo grapes are picked from vines grown in the clay soil hills sorrounding Novara. Harvested in late October to ensure they are perfectly ripe. Pale garnet in colour, with a nose of red berry, red fruits and violets notes. The palate is intense and round, starting with the same red berries and evolving into spices and vanilla flavours from the oak ageing.
Fontechiara is a family owned winery, small production focused on only two grapes, Nebbiolo and Vespolina. Nebbiolo is widely grown in Piedmont, north-west Italian region.
According to some, the name Nebbiolo probably comes from “nebbia” (Italian word for fog) as its ripe berries are veiled by prominent bloom which gives them a frosted look.
In this area the soil is acidic, rich in iron with a little limestone. Perfect conditions for this variety which give it long lasting ageing potential.
Vivino users rate it a top wine with a stunning 3.9!
