Les Quilles Libres Blanc
Top 6% wine in the world
Blend: 95% Grenache Gris + 5% Grenache Blanc
From: France, Côtes Catalanes IGP
By: Marc Barriot @ Clot De L’Origine
The Les Quilles Libre Blanc is a medium-bodied white wine made with as little sulphur as possible. It is a blend of the local grenache gris variety with a little grenache blanc, and makes a rounded, herbaceous wine with flavours of melon and peach.
Clot de l’Origine is a small producer based in the Maury appellation in the Pyrenees, the mountain range that separates France and Spain. It makes a range of natural wines from the region’s classic grape varieties, and is certified organic.
Les Quilles Libre Blanc comes from a vineyard that is worked entirely by hand (or mule where the slope is too steep). It is fermented in barrel, and is also aged in barrel on its fine lees. The wine is not fined or filtered, and is bottled by hand the year following harvest.
