Les Costières de Pomerols Syrah
Blend: 100% Syrah
From: France, Pays d’Oc IGP
By: Joel Jullien & Graeme Paul @ Baron de Badassière
This syrah, sourced from the Badassiere vineyard near the southern coast of France, comes from a region that is better known for its white Picpoul de Pinet wines.
Not one to be upstaged by its paler counterpart, this wine is full-bodied and spicy with plum and leather on the palate.
The Badassiere vineyard has a long history, and in the 18th century was owned by Baron Charles Emmanuel, a nobleman who was thought to be the illegitimate son of King Louis XV.
The vineyard’s position on the coast means that it benefits from long sunshine hours, which help with ripening, although cooling sea breezes contribute balance to the wines.
The Syrah grapes are macerated on their skins, then undergo temperature-controlled fermentation.
The Baron de Badassiere Syrah offers good quality at a low price, making it a great value wine.
