Les Costières de Pomerols Picpoul de Pinet
Top 5% wine in the UK
Blend: 100% Picpoul
From: France, Languedoc
By: Joel Jullien & Graeme Paul @ Baron de Badassière
The Badassiere vineyard is based in the Picpoul de Pinet region, where one of the Languedoc’s most famous (and best value) wines is made. This PIcpoul is a great example of this wine, with a fresh, clean palate with copious amounts of green apple, yellow plum and lemon zest.
The vineyards sit on the Mediterranean coast of France, where the warm temperatures are cooled by the sea breezes, making for a long, slow ripening period. The clay limestone soils are well suited to the Picpoul grapes, giving them a touch of stony minerality.
The grapes for this wine were harvested early in the morning to preserve their freshness. They were fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel before being bottled with no oak whatsoever.
