Côtes du Rhône Rouge
Blend: 60% Grenache + 30% Syrah + 10% Carignan
From: France, Côtes Du Rhône AOC
By: Antoine Gomez @ Les Terres du Roy
This balanced, ripe wine comes from the southern Rhone Valley, just north of Avignon. It is full-bodied, with characters of plum, strawberry and a good amount of spice. Its quality punches well above its price point, making it a great everyday drinking kind of wine.
The grapes that make this wine come from vines that are on average 40 years old, planted on pebbly hillsides that limit vigour and yields. This makes for concentrated, intensely flavoured berries that in turn make complex wines with a lot of varietal character. The wine is a blend of grenache, syrah, and a small amount of cinsaut.
The Les Terres du Roy Cotes du Rhone is bottled without oak aging, giving the fruit a blank canvas to show off its vibrancy.
