Cotes-Du-Rhone ‘La Sagesse’
Top 6% wine in the world
Blend: 100% Grenache
From: France, Côtes Du Rhône AOC
By: Michèle Aubèry-Laurent @ Domaine Gramenon
An intense and fragrant Grenache from the Domaine Gramenon near the Rhone village of Montbrison-sur-Lez. The domaine is a little unusual for producing high-end wines from the supposedly lowly Côtes du Rhône grape, but have no fear, Michele and her son Maxime have a reputation for producing quality, complex wines.
The Grenache grapes for La Sagesse CDR Rouge grow upon 50 year-old vines at an altitude that allows a longer growing season. After the sun’s work is done, the grapes are handpicked in crates, macerated for fifteen days in wooden and rough cement vats, then aged for twelve months in oak barrels with natural yeasts. The Domain Gramenon is an organic vineyard run biodynamically.
