After the winter, when cows graze between the vines, Didier Barral, ‘an obstinate winemaker’ manages his biodynamic vineyard according to lunar cycles and with the utmost natural care. The Faugeres Tradition Rouge is conjured from a delicious mix of Carignan, Grenache and Cinsault grapes, harvested and sorted by hand.
Didier Barral’s vineyard lies on steep slopes sheltered by the Cevennes foothills near the excessively pretty village of Faugeres in the Languedoc-Roussillon. Barral has been making wine here since 1990, and works hard to promote natural relationships between plants and animals to keep the ecosystem of the vineyard balanced and productive. The grapes for Faugeres Tradition Rouge are pressed in an old wooden basket press and aged for two years.
