Cahors Grand Vin
Top 4% wine in the world
Blend: 85% Malbec + 15% Merlot
From: France, Grand vin Cahors
By: Philippe Lejeune @ Château De Chambert
Château de Chambert’s top wine, the Cahors Grand Vin, is a deep, rich wine with fresh black fruit and spice, all underpinned by elegant and long-lasting tannins. This is the estate’s top wine, and is made from a blend of grapes from its top vineyard plots.
There have been vineyards at Château de Chambert since the 10th century. The vineyard was replanted in the 1970s and converted to organics, and eventually was farmed biodynamically as well. Today, there are 65 hectares of vines, planted on sunny plots in the highest part of Cahors, where exposure to sun and wind makes organic farming easy. The iron- and limestone-rich clay soils provide the malbec vines with the best terroir Cahors has to offer.
The Cahors Grand Vin is fermented for 15-20 days on its skins, using only natural yeasts. It undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrel, and is then aged for 14 months in a mixture of new and old French oak, with the proportion of new oak never exceeding 20%.
Vivino users rate it a top wine with a stunning 4.1!
