Brut Grand Réserve
Top 10% wine in the UK
Blend: 60% Pinot Meunier + 30% Chardonnay + 10% Pinot Noir
From: France, Champagne AOC
By: Baron family @ Domaine Sophie Baron
A crisp and lively champagne from a family vineyard in the Valée de la Marne. Named for the daughter of the estate, this pale gold Brut Grand Reserve is created from a typical champagne blend of Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, fermented ‘on the lees’ to create complexity and a rich texture.
The Baron family have had a vineyard in the Vallée de la Marne since the seventeenth century, however wine growing wasn’t always a prestigious vocation, so when Gabriel Baron met Spanish Dolores Fuente at the local dance hall he pretended he was a postman. Dolores didn’t seem to mind the truth though, as the couple married and went on to form Baron-Fuente. The vineyard is now managed by their children, Sophie and Ignace.
