Brunello di Montalcino Greppo
Top 1% wine in the world
Blend: 100% Sangiovese
From: Italy, Brunello Di Montalcino DOCG
By: Biondi Santi
Brunello di Montalcino is one of the most celebrated Italian wines, and the Biondi Santi family, who have been producing Brunello for at least 140 years, are one of the most renowned producers. This is a wine so precious it was buried in walls to prevent wartime theft, and served up to Queen Elizabeth (she liked it).
Montalcino is a picture postcard Tuscan village surrounded by vineyards growing Sangiovese vines. The Sangiovese grapes for Brunello di Montalcino are aged in Slovenian oak – used because they are ‘neutral’, allowing the grapes and terroir to be expressed in the wine. Brunellos are renowned for their ageing potential; the 2009 vintage, which won a gold medal at the 2014 Mundus Vini, can be drunk now or up to 2026.
Vivino users rate it a top wine with a stunning 4.3!
