‘Black Queen’ Sparkling Shiraz
Top 5% wine in the UK
Semi-sweet sparkling red
Blend: 100% Syrah
From: Australia, Barossa Valley
By: Peter Lehmann
A sparkling red to mark a special occasion of simply to satisfy curiosity. Created from Syrah grapes grown in vineyards across Australia’s Barossa valley by Peter Lehmann, considered to be something of a white knight after buying harvests from desperate growers in the seventies, saving many old vines from desertion.
Peter Lehmann works with over 140 growers in the Barossa Valley, buying grapes from 750 vineyards. Black Queen Sparkling Shiraz, named for the mysterious Queen of Sheba, is made from grapes growing on old, low yielding vines, which are left to ferment on their skins for up to ten days before being aged for twelve months in French hogsheads. The wine is then aged in bottles for two years. Best drunk now or in a year or so.
Vivino users rate it a top wine with a stunning 3.9!
