Alvarinho Morgadio Da Torre
Top 8% wine in the UK
Blend: 100% Alvarinho
From: Portugal, Vinho Verde DOC
By: Mafalda da Cunha @ Morgadio Da Torre
A light bodied white made from Alvarinho grape, considered to be one of Portugal’s most characterful grape varieties. The grapes are grown on the Morgadio de Torre estate, which was founded in the early seventeenth century. Today the estate is owned by the Sogrape company whose expertise lies in producing wines from indigenous grape varieties.
Morgadio de Torre Alvarinho is made by learned oenologist António Braga whose passion for wine (and olives) was instilled at an early age. The vineyards for the lemon-yellow Alvarinho are in Monçao within the Vinho Verde region – considered to be the best region for the growing of Alvarinho. The grapes are left to mature on fine lees for five months, then fined and cold filtered.
