6x Super-aged Reds (£179)
This bundle brings together a range of red wines that have spent at least two years maturing in oak. Ageing in oak aims at creating wines that are balanced, structured, and can be aged for many years. Both organic and biodynamic wines can be made with oak, as can vegan wines.
There are many variations of oak used, giving different characters to the wine. French oak adds subtle spice, while American oak gives richer characters of vanilla, toast and coconut. The age of the barrels is also very important – the newer a barrel is, the more oak character it will impart, and winemakers will often employ a range of new and old barrels to achieve the desired effect.
